IEEE Symposium on Privacy Expectations (ISoPE)

The IEEE Digital Privacy Initiative is proud to announce the inaugural IEEE Symposium on Privacy Expectations (ISoPE) a premier event dedicated to advancing the discourse on digital privacy in an increasingly interconnected world. Building on the success of the 2024 Digital Privacy Workshop held at Carnegie Mellon University, ISoPE 2025 will bring together leading practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the evolving landscape of privacy expectations, solutions, and the implications for technology and society.

In today’s digital age, privacy has become a cornerstone of individual autonomy and trust. As technological advancements continue to permeate every aspect of our lives, the collection, use, and sharing of personal data have raised critical questions about how privacy is defined, protected, and experienced by individuals. While much of the conversation around privacy has focused on securing data and systems, ISoPE 2025 focuses on multi-disciplinary conversations to operationalize privacy, to help achieve an individual’s privacy expectations in the digital ecosystem.

This symposium will explore innovative approaches to embedding privacy expectations into the fabric of technology design, development, and deployment. Key themes include:

• Operationalizing Privacy: How can organizations integrate privacy into system engineering and product lifecycles from the outset?
